Normal pool evaporation is 1/8" - 1/4" per day. A bucket test should be done to determine if the pool is leaking. Take any size bucket 1 to 5 gallons and fill approximately half full. Place the bucket on far side of pool deck so it gets sun, rain, etc. Mark water level inside bucket with a pencil. Next turn pool off. Remove round skimmer lid and mark pool level inside of skimmer above basket with a pencil. Let pool run as normal and check both in 24 hours. Turn pool off again before you check the pool level. The bucket will give you the evaporation. The pool and bucket should match in water loss. Fountains and heating the pool will add to evaporation. If your not sure repeat the test but leave the pool off.
